Industry 4.0 and its impact on Engineering skill Development in education

Industry 4.0, also known as the “fourth industrial revolution,” will bring everyone on this earth to a reality in which new technologies such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Smart Manufacturing, and so on will be introduced on a massive scale and will have a direct impact on all aspects of humankind.

We’ll have to adapt how we study, how we work, how we interact, and even how we live our daily lives. In order to keep up with the rapid technological growth related to a wide range of industries, economies, societies, and health, all job sectors will look for workers with substantial skills that are exactly matched with the development of new technologies.

First, technological advancements will replace low-skilled human workers with automation and robotic tools. Second, the automation & robotic tool production & allied businesses would require a pool of experienced engineers to fulfill the needs of many sectors. As a result, current engineering graduates will find it challenging to get job if their existing skills are out of sync with current industry demands.

Solving Difficult Problems:

Engineering companies face complex problems every day, and as Industry 4.0 takes hold, the problems will become increasingly complex. As a result, future engineers are expected to be proficient in the systematic analysis of complicated issues.

Critical Thinking:

Industry 4.0 emphasizes a creative approach to bring a new era of digital transformation. All businesses must adjust their goal and vision to the changing needs of the hour. As a result, their engineering team should be knowledgeable in the interpretation of various data sets that lead to final decision-making.

Creative thinking:

This is one of the most important competencies driving Industry 4.0. Companies expect their engineering staff to innovate outside the box and build distinctive new products to optimize customized market reach.

People Management:

Industry 4.0 leaders must divide leadership and managing responsibilities throughout the organizational network in order to support the companies’ rapid distinctive evolution. As a result, regardless of the hierarchy, all aspiring engineers must have the mindset to act as decision-makers.

Collaboration with Others:

Engineers must have good coordination skills in order to achieve common goals of multiple teams together in order to save time and resources for the companies under Industry 4.0.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ):

Along with technical expertise, Industry 4.0 engineers must be emotionally intelligent in order to feel sympathy and empathy for one another for the working environment to be beneficial to everyone’s professional and personal progress in tandem with the rapid change of new technologies.

Decision making:

Industry 4.0 engineers should also be able to recognize an issue, collect data related to it, analyze the collected data, create relevant representations, and draw conclusions beneficial for driving decisions.

Negotiation Skills:

Not only should Industry 4.0 engineers be service-oriented, but they should also be capable of negotiating across numerous digital platforms in order to develop a mutually beneficial relationship between the organization and its clients.
