Traditional v/s Virtual Class-The Big Question?

So just like any other thing in the world the pandemic has also had its own set of merits and demerits.  All of us are very much aware that while many businesses suffered or were even shut down during the pandemic for few it has been a ‘blessing in disguise.’ Pantry essentials, Shipping companies and of course the Information Technology sector to name a few. Now going out in the market for shopping looks like a burden when one can easily shop online comfortably on ones couch from their air conditioned room.

During the pandemic the world was introduced to a totally new methodology of education which brought a renaissance in the entire teaching style and a ‘never heard before’ and a ‘never done before’ virtual class replaced the traditional one. While many took it as a welcome and students happily took classes from home for others it was a big hindrance in socializing which was a great source of discomfort in medium and the seemingly long run. And now that the lockdown phase is settled with the reopening of colleges and schools, the graph of online education has witnessed a sharp drop with mainly home tuitions and online coaching centers being the major buyers of the changed style. The roads look jam packed again in the peak office hours and pollution levels high. The time is back again when just to reach ones’ workplace on time is a challenge everyday and logically thinking one is devoting an average 2 hours of travel time daily which could have been utilized elsewhere more productively if one could work from home.

One might correctly argue that this is a more effective way to work, but one has to take it with a ‘pinch of salt.’ Another aspect to be observed here is that while schools are successful in maintaining attendance discipline among students, it has rather been a challenge at the college level. And all this with the ocean of educative channel system online students at times find it easier to study from them than travelling a huge distance to attend college to study.

All this makes one ponder over the big Question? Has the new methodology made its way into the world education system? Will it really change the way things move in the education industry few years down the line?? How preferred will this new system be? To what extent will the nature’s rule ‘what is more comfortable and practically feasible will survive and prevail?’ However if one really wants to benefit from the 2 systems of education then, then maybe a mix of both the methodologies could be adopted. For example in a given week maybe two classes can be conducted virtually and three offline or on case to case basis. By doing this if a situation arises it can work like a middle path for balance. But as a thumb rule assessments and exams should never go online for very evident reasons. So to conclude let us focus on the key areas which will take us forward and not being stuck just with methodologies which can only go to the extent of under utilization of energy and time.
