Salary Expectation of Today’s Youth

In the present sky-scraping, technological epoch, one major question that arises in every fresher’s mind passing out of top engineering and Management colleges is: “Should I ever take a job that pays less salary than I expect?”

The students esp. the professional graduates/post graduates tend to aspire for salary higher than polytechnic candidates from college; although the capabilities may be equivalent. The top Engineering colleges in Delhi/NCR persuade the fresh UGs/PGs to start with lower expectations and then search for better opportunities with some experience on their shoulders. We as young aspirers should understand that we first need to work on our skills; for which even a low pay profile would be a good option provided that you get to learn. In the start of the career, every individual needs to work more on the self development and less on the earnings part. Our youth needs to understand that once they enhance their skills, it would be very easy to get placed in a high pay job profile.

Rather than keeping a prejudice in our mind for a high pay job, we should analyse the value-added benefits in a low pay profile. We can witness the following pointers while accepting a less salary proving to be a worthy choice for our career:

  • A good position in the company with an effective job profile helps to grow professionally.
  • A low income means lower taxes to be paid.
  • A work from home profile (if offered) would not require a huge salary package.
  • A higher education opportunity while on roll with the company would also add value to our career.

Some Examples

Almost all big Information Technology companies like Wipro, Cognizant and many more have MS/MBA/M.Tech. courses to offer from top engineering colleges & top MBA college. The companies offer higher study mode for any employee coming from colleges in Ghaziabad for engineering via distance/satellite etc. Part time and correspondence courses are offered to students for career enhancement. These benefits are a boon to candidates esp. those coming from Non MBA and Non English background.

Top placement colleges in Delhi/NCR have association with companies like TCS and Infosys who offer various higher education programs for their employees. They have tie ups with some very good organizations. Also there will be the benefit in the cost expenditure to do higher studies. So if students from computer science colleges or information technology colleges are hired in one such company, then you can think of pursuing higher studies through the company program in top computer science colleges and best information technology colleges.

  • TCS with IIT-Chennai, Jadavpur University, West Bengal and Satra University and NMIMS for part time MBA
  • IBM is with Mysore University, BIITS Pilani, IIT-M, IIT-B
  • Infosys with IIT-B
  • Accenture with XLRI
  • Wipro have WASE programme

In a nutshell, it would not be incorrect to state that being a fresher one shouldn’t look much on CTC.
