Men of genius are admired, men of wealth are envied, men of power are feared; but only men of character are trusted. – Alfred Adler
Education, the most important aspect of our life and one of the essentials for survival, isn’t merely restricted to gaining academic knowledge. It isn’t something just confined to books, it’s much more than that. In today’s cut-throat competitive era, a child needs to be developed according to the dynamism of the environment. For that, he/she needs holistic development which is impossible unless UHV or universal human values are inculcated in him/her since the early formative years of his/her life. These human values have been in our tradition since the very beginning of civilization and passed from one generation to the next through what we commonly call ‘Sanskar’.
Nowadays, in this age of materialistic longings, we are seeing a decline and disappearance of morality and moral values from our generation. Success has become the most important parameter in life. People want to achieve success at any cost. It doesn’t matter how; what matters is where you are in the hierarchy of society. How many cars do you have? How many villas have you purchased? This self- inclined, materialistic lifestyle compels us to adopt ways which are dubious and nefarious. In due course, we also tend to forget the core values needed for a strong character. A strong and charismatic character is what is needed for living a joyful and purposeful life.
Better to be a man of character than a man of means – An Irish Proverb
Imparting knowledge of values is very important to shape the future of a child. It not only has a long lasting effect on the behavior and attitude but also changes the overall perception of the child; how he/she will behave in a certain situation. The child learns co-operation, responsibility and leadership skills because of value education. Value education helps him/her to be more focused and attentive in the class. We see a high level of maturity and understanding in such children. They are much more responsible, accountable and sensible in their endeavors. Value education helps them to be more positive and always look at the brighter side of the situation. This optimism enables them in developing a positive outlook which ultimately makes things easier for them and drive their lifeboat away from the darker realms of the world.
It also helps in improving the inner as well as external personality of a student and in due time strengthen the mental capabilities. The social receptivity also gradually improves which helps in proper coordination and understanding of relationships necessary for development of a strong network nowadays. The ethics taught here change the mind-set of the children and let them know the true purpose of their life and help them in becoming a better citizen of the country and serve as an integral part of the society.
