Leadership is the ability to motivate a team to achieve a certain objective. It’s usually discussed in the context of business organizations as well as non-business organizations, but leadership is also how you, as a human being, choose to live your life properly. The leadership is to affect, motivate and assist others become their best selves, building their expertise and achieving objectives along the way. You don’t have to be an MD, manager, or even a Team Leader. Leadership is a set of skills – and certain psychology – that anyone can master.
Styles of Leadership
Visionary leadership style
A visionary leader has a powerful potential to drive progress and earn trust for new plans. A visionary leader is also able to find a strong organizational relationship. They strive to encourage confidence among their colleagues. This is especially helpful for small, fast-growing setups, or larger business organizations.
Autocratic leadership style
This type of leader is someone who focuses on results and capability. They often make decisions alone or with a small, confident group and expect employees to do what they’re asked. It can be helpful to think of these types of leaders as military officers. It can be useful in organizations with strict guidelines or compliance-heavy industries.
Laissez-faire leadership style
It is the opposite of the autocratic leadership type, focusing mostly on delegating many tasks to team members and providing little to no supervision because a laissez-faire leader does not spend their time intensely handling employees. Managers may adopt this leadership style when all team members are highly experienced, well-trained, and require little supervision.
Democratic or participative leadership style
It is a combination of the autocratic and laissez-faire types of leaders. A democratic leader is someone who asks for details and considers responses from their team before making a decision, because team members believe their voice is heard and their contributions matter.
Transformational leadership style
This is similar to the coach-style in that it focuses on clear communication, goal-setting, and employee motivation. However, instead of placing the mass-energy into each employee’s individual goals, the transformational leader is driven by a commitment to organizational goals.
