There are three words, combined and form MIS. Management is the administration of an organization. It is the combination of arts and science to manage the resources of an organization. Management refers to those people who are responsible for managing an organization. Information is the processed data and is presented in the form which is used for decision making. The most important element for a business is Information. To get proper information we need to clean data first to remove errors, outliers, and sources of unreliability. A system may be defined as the set of components that are joined together to achieve some given objective. Components are input, process, and output.

Objective of MIS:

  • The overall objective of MIS is to generate reports and these reports are helpful for managers to analyze various possibilities.
  • To achieve competitive advantages, it gives a platform to improve and make a strategy for an organization.
  • Utilize human and computer resources, play an important role to identify the effectiveness.
  • Understanding customer requirements or needs help to predict the response of customers.
  • Improving better decision-making power of a manager plays a key role.

It is three-level in MIS which provide a platform of planning, directing, coordinating, communicating, monitoring, and decision making. The top-level is strategic planning. The middle level is tactical planning and the lower level is knowledge.

  3. Clear statement of requirement.
  4. Proper planning.
  5. Realistic expectation.

So, the Management Information system plays a key role in decision-making in any organization. In today’s competitive world a proper decision-making system is very important for all organizations. To generate proper information, problem identification, and communication, MIS has an important role. The MIS, therefore, plays a vital role in the management, administration, and operation of an organization.
