You should do basic research about the company before appearing for the interview. One should know about the mission and vision of the company. Show your employer your interest in the company and your efforts in knowing the philosophy of the company. Company website, official social media posts, publicly available brochures and google posts are a few of the important sources for collecting information about the company.
Start introspecting yourself and find the strengths that you can emphasize in the interview. Try to explore your accomplishments till date and find out skills that led you to achieve those accomplishments in your life. Some of the strengths you may have can be psychological sensitivity, skills of persuasion, time management skills, or self-motivation.
Take the help of your family members or friends to conduct mock interviews for you. You can take a few common questions and practice giving answers to those questions. Your family or friends can act as the interviewer and you can answer them like an interviewee. You can also think of the hardest questions related to your job profile and relating to your expertise and try to frame the best answers for them.
Try to find out from the website or social media posts about the preferred outfit in the organization where you are going for an interview. You will get an idea from the pics of existing employees of the type of outfit the organization follows. It can be Indian formal or western formal. If you are confused, a formal business suit is always the preferred one. Along with clothing, the choice of footwear is also important. It should always be covered and a formal one. Jewelry and makeup should be subtle and should not be too loud. You should have a few outfits to appear for the second and final round of interviews which is called shortly once you crack the initial round.
Plan your journey to the interview venue well in advance and select a suitable mode of transport which should be a reliable one. Take some extra margin for traffic and route congestions and try to reach the venue before the scheduled time. This will give you some time to relax and observe the surroundings and be better prepared for the interview.
Be confident, assertive, and natural in your interview. Maintain eye contact with the person who has asked you a question. Avoid commenting on political issues or topics which are racial, ethnic, or religious. Be nice and courteous to everyone whom you meet irrespective of the designation or position he/she holds in the company.
Don’t try to be over-smart with the interviewer. Any good interviewer will judge you within the first five minutes of your interaction with the interviewing committee. Be confident of your knowledge, expertise, skills, and competencies, and try to be honest with the interviewer.
Most of the time, at the end of the interview, you will be asked to ask questions if you have. It’s always good to ask them a few questions about the job profile, job responsibilities, and what they expect from the candidate. This will show your interest in the job and company. In the end, before leaving the room, give the interviewer a good handshake and thanks.
It’s always good to write thank you email once you reach home after appearing for an interview. Write clearly in the mail that you are thankful to the interviewing committee for giving you their precious time This simple courtesy will make a huge difference and you will stand out in the crowd.
