On the auspicious occasion of Lohri & Makar Sankranti, Sanskriti Club – GNIOT Institute of Management Studies (GIMS) organized a cultural activity on 14 January 2021 for the students of PGDM (2020-22). The central nucleus of celebrating Lohri and Makar Sankranti gave everyone a platform to socialize with other attending members. Also, to understand the rich heritage of India and learn about the importance of these festivals together. Along with the students’ interest and fun for the activities, qualities like responsiveness, creativity, and inseparability were also inculcated.
The celebration started in the presence of Dr. Arun Kumar Singh (Director, GIMS), Mr. Rajesh Gupta (Chairman, GNIOT Group), Vice-Chairman Mr. Bajrang Lal Gupta and Mr. Gaurav Gupta, Mr. Swadesh Singh (CEO, GIMS), Dr. Pranveer Singh (Director General, GNIOT), along with the heads, Area-chairs and the students of GIMS. The enormous traditional bonfire was set up with various kinds of sweet delicacies on display for eating together. The rituals were conducted by all the heads and students together. The mood on the campus was optimistic, and the students were engrossed in the festive spirit of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. All the campus heads gave words of wisdom to all the members, and the students presented. The words of wisdom by all the campus heads cheered up the spirit at most. The initiation of activities took a toll by Ansh Sharma’s influencing speech on the Importance and significance of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. Everybody had a gala time as a few students of PGDM batch 2020-22 tapped their feet on Punjabi songs. Sumedha Srivastava, Khusboo Kumari, Jyotsna Rai and Priyanka Srivastava showcased their marvellous dancing skills by presenting a skit. Also, Sanjana Singh and Sonam Singh did not hold their feet back to showcase their talent; they performed a fabulous duet dance. Mani Dubey and Jyotsna Rai showcased their marvellous oratory skills by presenting a duet song that gained the audience’s hefty amount of appreciation. Last but not least, some peanuts, popcorn and rewri were distributed to the attendees of the event as a way of paying gratitude to nature’s bounty.
The cessation of celebration was overwhelming. The institute took a great initiative to distribute blankets and sweet delicacies to needy people because the celebration is not about enjoying with our loved ones only but with others by giving back to the community.
