Difference Between B.Tech and Polytechnic.?

Engineering being one of the most popular study streams have vast following among students especially Indian Students. At the same time we see that polytechnic is also a commonly opted stream after 10th class by many students in rural and semi urban areas. Lets check out what are the main difference between a polytechnic and B.Tech Courses.

Entry into the course: To pursue A polytechnic diploma student should be minimum 10th pass and should appear for entrance exams organized by respective state authorities or Institute. On the other hand for B.Tech. Minimum Qualification is 12th pass and then one should appear for Entrance exam like AIEEE, IIT-JEE, Or state wise organised B.Tech. entrance examinations. As both Polytechnic and B.Tech. are mostly engineering discipline thus PCM combination is desired in qualification course.

Diploma VS Degree: Polytechnic education offers an engineering diploma whereas B.Tech. is a degree course and offers a full-fledged engineering degree upon completion of course. Polytechnic is a three-year course whereas B. Tech is a four-year course.

Course structure and difficulty levels:  As stated earlier polytechnic students are generally high school graduates and thus course structure start from post high school level and grows in following years. Engineering course like B.Tech. Take 12th pass as minimum qualification and thus course structure is a bit more elaborated when compared to polytechnic. However subjects for both engineering courses remains almost similar with a bit advance study-course in B.Tech.

Job Prospects after competition of course: Polytechnic students generally appears and fulfil position of junior engineers after competition of their course and B.Tech students get posted as Engineers (process engineer, software engineer etc.) as per there stream of engineering.

Fees: Polytechnic diploma are cheaper to pursue when compared to a B.Tech. Degree as per semester tuition fee and institutional expenses are less for Polytechnic degrees, secondly Polytechnic course are 3 years course whereas engineering is a 4 years course which means one full year of fees payments and other expenses.

We have compared the most aspects of both courses and given the fact of better employment possibilities and better knowledge of engineering discipline B.Tech. can be an obvious choice for most students. But if you are someone who doesn’t have resources to pursue a B.Tech right now you may opt for a polytechnic right now and later you can complete your B.Tech degree in just three Years (Instead of 4 for Normal Students).
