On 1st June 2021 Central board of secondary education had a meeting which was presided over by PM Narendra Modi. CBSE the prime educational body in India declared that they will not be conducting the 12th Board exams as anxiety and unhealthy atmosphere amid covid-19 pandemic, does not provide a conductive environment for examination. PM Modi Highlighted that “The health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there would be no compromise on this aspect,”
CBSE has also announced that they will be evaluating students on a well-defined objective criterion, so that a fare scorecard can be obtained for future purposes. If you seek further information on how the scoring will be done, then continue reading.
CBSE is working on the process about “how to evaluate marks for class 12th.”
There are two main ways by which CBSE can derive final marks for 12th students.
First is to asses’ students based on 10th Exam Marks, 11th Final Exam Marks & 12th Preboard Marks or Half Yearly Marks. 100 marks will be considered for every subject and out of which 80 will be based on CBSE criterion and 20 will be based on internal assessments. For 80% marks (CBSE criterion) 50% will be considered from 10th Board exam marks and 50% will be given based on 12th Preboard, six monthly and Unit Exams.
Second option is to give weightage to 10th marks and 12th Internal assessments. In this method some are suggesting that decision about weightage can be 70:30 for 12th and 10th Marks, respectively.
It is unclear that which is more preferred method for students and parents and students have mixed views on this controversial topic. Mr. Mohan Das Pai said that a weighted method can be adapted. Speaking to Times Now he shared that while the board can look at previous year, it must only give a small weight to the same. “CBSE could give 30% weight to Class 11 performance and 70% to Class 12,” he said.
Internal assessment of 12th is going to play a vital role which is a right method too, as marks in 9th and 10th may not be the right indicator for a student in 12th for a student who have chosen commerce in 12th should not be assessed based on his/her science subject performance in class 9th.
However, CBSE is also thinking to give “chance of examination” to students who are not satisfied with proposed method. Final decision is still pending, and it is believed that CBSE will introduce final evaluation method in next 2-3 days. Whichever method is chosen to asses students for class 12th , students now should focus on choosing a career path which can bring them opportunity to succeed and find happiness in life. In new Era of post pandemic times opportunities would be plenty for those who are willing to work hard with conviction.
All the best.
