It looks online learning isn’t going anyplace quickly. Even looking beyond the days of limitations and physical distancing, virtual learning is here to stay in some competences. The demand for Ed-tech is only growing, so as students become aware of the advantage of online classes. The imperativeness for institution to offer if not amply digital then flexible course delivery will remain.

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean learning online is easy or desired by all students. Recently, one quarter of students is considering 2020 a disruption year or leave of absenteeism due to the ambiguity around education during COVID-19.

Pedagogues, too, were caught in this whirlwind of change and ambiguity. But by prioritizing synergistic learning practice, advisors were capable to reap educational outcomes. Pedagogues can choose to adopt method and make the learners participate along their virtual learning journey and if something particularly students can benefit from right now, its inspiration.

Urge Self-motivation

When we think of motivation, gratification often comes to mind, however, the best outcomes result when learners are able to motivate themselves, other than trust on any external motivation. They can better direct their effort, staying engaged through the course, and sooner or later, receive their own outcomes.

So how do you promote self-driven students and increase motivation when teaching online? – By deliberately developing three teaching asset that already have, language, feedback and class community.

Motivate with language

On analyzing about one’s daily interactions with students, colleagues, and loved ones, it is clear that the teachers can choose their words with great purpose. But it is also true that they speak maybe more often than not routinely. Being aware of the language used when teaching online, whether synchronously or asynchronously, is a great step forward towards maintaining and promoting learning environment. Changing customs are difficult, so start by being aware of a picking out a few phrases that motivate the students.

How do you know what quality of language will be more effective?

Use student centric language instead of teacher centric language, which means taking the “I” out of instructions and replacing it with “you” for instance try saying “for the final paper you can choose between five topics”. That phrasing will directly put students in the driver’s seat of their academic performance and experience. It will inflame more motivation than a phrase like, “I would like you to choose between five topics and write a research paper for the final assignment”.

To take a step further, switch from requesting completion to asking for involvement with the task. For example instead of “I expect you to” or “I want you to” use “your goal is” or “your challenge is”. Again this language instantly engages the learner in the project. It becomes the students’ journey rather than your needs or asks.

Motivate with feedback

Personalized interaction keeps the students engaged in any environment, but especially so in any online classroom providing feedback regularly and consistently through the course will exhibit the care for their progress. It also proves that they are not just another picture element on a screen. This will keep students learning through an assignment rather than only at the end when they don’t have the opportunity to put that feedback into practice.

Providing feedback is another way to build relationships with students, by opening your communication method you provide student with more personalized experienced. Comment will less likely to be forgotten and students may even feel more comfortable following up with the teacher in clarifying any doubts. When they know you feel more connected to your course and the content too.

Motivate with community

With building connection in distanced learning is a different type of defiance, nurturing a vibrant learning community in an online course is made easier over various platforms. They engage students with each other, bringing a sense of responsibility to the class.

Creating an inspired communication in live setting does take some language planning. The teaching resources a teacher may employ and the environment they nurture in their online class have a great influence on the student engagement and motivation. Taking time to strategically evaluate one’s teaching and practices now throughout one’s online course will help the students find motivation at the challenging points of the trimester and also achieving greater outcomes and having more fun along the way.
