B.Com vs. BBA

Prof. Ruchi Rayat
Assistant Professor
Greater Noida Institute of Technology (MBA Institute)

After completion of 10+2 examinations or about to sit for 12th board examinations, several students encounter a common dilemma to choose the next best course for undergraduate study. This is one of the most critical decision in any student’s life as s/he has to choose the appropriate career path. Students, especially with Commerce in 10+2 background, get confused about B.Com or BBA program. My suggestion to you is do not just jump into any of the fields blindly without analyzing their skills, interests and future opportunities. Look at yourself, listen to your inner voice, take aptitude and personality tests, search for career guidance blogs online and if required, seek for an expert career counselor. In this write-up, I am going to discuss about B.Com and BBA as undergraduate courses.

Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)

Commerce is one of the most sought-after fields after science. With comprehensive courses provided by the universities in the country, students can have very good career prospects in India and even abroad. B.Com is an undergraduate three years degree program in commerce and related subjects. The degree creates professional skills among the students in terms of their selected course like Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Taxation, Economics etc. After graduation students may choose to pursue Masters of Commerce (M.Com) or pursue different fields like Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy, etc. B.Com students can also enter a wide variety of fields in different industries like Banks, Junior Accountant, Tax Practitioner, Consultancy firms, etc.

At Greater Noida Institute of Technology (GNIOT), B.Com degree meets world class quality parameters and that too with great rigor. The program is affiliated to Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. The syllabus is very contemporary and is designed thoughtfully to deliver students with not only the basic university curriculum but an extended disposition of operational skills. In GNIOT, teaching is conducted through various multimedia platforms. The classroom teaching is imbibed with case studies, industrial visits, presentations and summer placements, among others. The uniqueness of B.Com program at GNIOT is that we also provide students with value added certification programs in Tally, Power BI, etc. It provides competitive edge to the students and creates competency to accomplish their dreams. If you are a student who is interested in pursuing career in the field of commerce, wants to learn in-depth about various aspects of the field and is also inclined towards numbers, B.Com can be a good choice for you.

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

BBA is a professional undergraduate degree program focusing on the fields of business and management. It is imparted by lesser universities or colleges when compared to B.Com. The curriculum aims to inculcate leadership qualities and entrepreneurial ability amongst the students so that they can pursue managerial role. It prepares the students to enter a career in business management with the necessary managerial expertise and skills. The BBA curriculum involves subjects like Marketing Management, Statistics, Economics, Operations Management, Business Policies, Behavioral Techniques, Capital Markets, etc. Students also learn about International Business, Human Resource Management, and Finance. It is a course tailored to make the students industry-ready. Students also get exposure to practical training, attend workshops and required soft skills training so that they can join the workforce after graduation. BBA graduates have job opportunities in various sectors like Banking, Consultancy, Finance, IT firms, advertising agencies, FMCG and consumer durable companies, etc. BBA is also a good foundation for the students interested in pursuing MBA. I suggest that you should choose BBA only if you have the target to pursue management career and you are confident that you have aptitude related to business and management.

GNIOT follows Chaudhary Charan Singh University curriculum, with practical methods of teaching like case studies, role play, simulation exercises, summer internships and industrial visits. GNIOT offers interactive learning and focuses on empowering students with skills and attributes to compete and sustain in the global market. We provide practical exposure to students through soft skills training, workshops, guest lectures, on-the-job training and ensure best placement opportunities. Certification programs on Tally, Excel, Digital Marketing, etc. are also offered within the program curriculum, to improve the employability skills of the students. We at GNIOT prepare the student as Corporate Ready at a managerial positions.

So, before you can start choosing an undergraduate course after your 12th standard, you should determine your interests and career goals, whether you are intrigued by the numbers or whether you are more interested in knowing about the real world applications of business. Career should be chosen keeping in mind one’s aptitude, skills, interest, personality, inner voice and various other factors. Take your time, decide what you want, set your target and go ahead!

My best wishes to all the aspirant students! God Bless You.
